Epicatechin

What is epicatechin?

Epicatechin is an antioxidant flavonoid and belongs to the so-called catechins. Like tannins, catechins are polyphenols found in plants and, above all, in wine. Catechins are among the most powerful antioxidants produced during the oxidation process of green or black tea. They are the bitter substances found in plants.

What is the effect of epicatechin on muscle building?

Primarily, epicatechin works by reducing myostatin, which can increase potential muscle growth by increasing follistatin. In a direct sense, epicatechins expand your "muscle building capacities" without acting hormonally. Epicatechin does not directly cause muscle growth, but regulates the myostatin-follistatin ratio in favor of greater muscle building potential. Studies on humans have shown that an intake of 2mg of epicatechin per kilogram of body weight can lead to a 7% increase in performance. (Example: a 100-kilogram man takes 200mg of epicatechin for 7% more performance). Epicatechin has gained a high status, especially in bodybuilding.
